The Heat opened the new year by winning the championship at the Ormond Beach Challenge against some very high level competition.  The girls defeated two State Cup teams to reach the finals where they then defeated the team that will likely be their main rival in the upcoming Region Cup tournament.

GAME 1 - The team opened against Central Brevard Cyclones with a 1-1 tie.  The girls came from behind in the 2nd half with Gaby netting the equalizer.  Unfortunately, Meagan B. went down late in the game with a serious shoulder injury, after playing her usual strong game at right defender, and she was lost for the remainder of the tournament.

GAME 2 - The team now knew they would need to win their final two group play games to advance.  This game saw the girls face the St. Pete Raiders who had easily defeated them back in a tournament last February.  But, the team has shown serious improvement since then.  After a scoreless first half, Reagan opened the scoring midway through the 2nd half with a rocket shot from 25 yards out that the keeper had no chance on.  St. Pete quickly tied the game, but not for long.  Reagan took matters into her own hands and netted two more long range strikes to complete her "hat trick" and seal the win for the Heat, 3-1.  Guest player keeper "big" Taylor kept the team in the game while the score was close with a number of great saves.

GAME 3 - This was the crucial game, with the girls needing a win against local rival CFU to advance to the finals.  The girls started the scoring early with Katlyn and guest player Gabriella netting nice goals from close range.  Taylor again was solid in goal, denying CFU on the few scoring chances they were able to generate.  The Heat's solid defending frustrated CFU, and the girls defeated this team for the first time, 2-0, and advanced to the finals.

Championship - The Heat again faced the Cyclones in a rematch of Game 1.  This up and down game saw the Heat open the scoring midway through the 2nd half with Megan W. finishing a nice close range shot.  However, a determined Cyclones team quickly scored to even the game.  Neither team could score for the remainder of regulation play, and two 5 minute overtime periods, so the game went would be decided on PKs.  Gabriella, Reagan, and "little" Taylor converted their chances, and "big" Taylor saved 3 of the first 4 Cyclone attempts to seal the championship win for the Heat.
