October News
October 30th
The Heat girls dropped a hard fought game to the 1st place Melbourne Fusion
0-2. The Fusion started the game fresh and quick, while the Heat
were tentative and quickly fell behind by two goals midway through the
first half. The first 15 minutes of the 2nd half saw much more
even play among the teams. Then, the Heat girls noticeably
outplayed the Fusion in the final 10 to 15 minutes. Caroline
barely missed a first time shot from the right late in the game with
the Heat's best scoring chance. Patricia (once again) "pitched a
shutout" in goal in the 2nd half.
October 28th
The Heat lost another tough game by the now familiar score of 0-1 to
CFU. The girls played well, but had a hard time penetrating a
stubborn CFU defense. This was, however, a vast improvement from
an early season scrimmage loss to CFU.
Next up is the top team in our league; undefeated
MEU-231. This game is in Mebourne on Saturday at noon.

is a 90 minute drive, so

And, HAPPY
BIRTHDAY KAIT (on Saturday).
October 24th - Tournament
Results
The Heat team completed a highly successful first tournament in
Clearwater, winning 2 and losing 1 at the Largo United Halloween
tournament. After being washed out of their first scheduled
tournament in September due to the hurricanes, the Heat came to the
Tampa area ready to show their stuff to the best from Region C.
Game 1 opened with a hard fought 0-1 loss to the Countryside Lightning,
one of last year's Region C Cup champions. The girls fell
behind by a goal late in the first half. However, the team came
back and outplayed Countryside in the 2nd half, barely missing a couple
of close chances to tie the game. Patricia deserves a special
mention for playing unbelievable in the net in the 2nd half.
In Game 2, the girls dominated play from start to finish against the
New Tampa Comets, finishing with a 2-0 win, in a game not as close as
the score would indicate. Patricia opened the scoring in the
first few minutes of the game. Megan added the final goal early
in the 2nd half. Kate and Patricia combined in the net for the
shutout victory.
Game 3 saw the Heat pitted against the East Lake Arsenal. The
Arsenal had previously beaten the Comets and tied the Lightning,
so the Heat girls knew they were in for a tough game. The team
played well in the first half, but the Arsenal controlled much of the
play. Allison was stellar in goal to keep the Heat tied 0-0 at
the half. Again, the Heat showed their resolve in the 2nd half,
turning the tide and dominating play. With some beautiful build
up passing, Meagan finished a shot from the right about 10 minutes into
the half to put the Heat up 1-0. About 10 minutes later, Alyssa
added her first goal of the season finishing a shot from the left
side. The keeper play was again superb, with Allison and Patricia
combining for the shutout.
The team barely missed advancing to the final. But, the coaches
were extremely pleased with the play from everyone; a true team
effort all the way around. Also, a special, special thanks to
Team Manager Kristi for keeping things incredibly organized with the
team. Kristi picked a great hotel, arranged an incredibly fun
Saturday night event (for both parents and kids), and kept the team
looking their best. THANKS KRISTI!!! Her only mistake was
allowing Coach Gil to drive without a navigator...
October 18th
The Heat girls lost a tough game to the Vero Beach Vipers 0-3 on
Sunday. The girls played hard but still had a tough time
generating an offensive attack. Vero Beach was awarded a PK on a
questionable call early in the game that made the game an uphill climb
from the start. But, the Vipers were the better team this day.
We now are focused on the Largo tournament coming up this
weekend. We'll have a scrimmage game on Wednesday night to help
prepare. WEAR BLUE...
October 11th - Tournament Update
Our Sunday tournament game (Oct. 24th) has been changed to an 8:00am
start time.
October 9th
The Heat girls again were outdueled at the end. This time, with
less than 1 minute remaining, the girls gave up a goal to lose a
heartbreaker 0-1. Our three losses this season have all been 0-1
defeats, with the deciding goal always coming with 10 minutes or less
to play. Even though the team now stands at a disappointing 1-3,
we have actually outscored the competition by a 4-3 margin in these
four games. Watch for a bit of a shake-up in the offense as the
coaches look for that right combination that can put the ball in the
back of the net.

Congratulations
to Reagan and Annalisa for being named Team Captains
for the month of October. They have earned this distinction
through a combination of hard work at practice, maturity, and high
level game play.
2 of our 3 postoned games have now been re-scheduled for Oct. 9th (1pm
Merritt Island) and Oct. 17th (5pm Lake Destiny). Please see the schedule page for additional
information. Please let Coach Gil know immediately if you are
unavailable for either of the these games. Also, please remember
to let one of the coaches know if you will not be available for any
practice session.
October 2nd
The Heat took a tough loss today to the Florida Thunder. The
girls dominated most of the game, but failed to convert many great
chances in both halves. The Thunder played with heart, and scored
late in the game to take the win 1-0. We know the girls will come
back strong, and determined to show what they can really do in future
games.
October 2nd URGENT
Tomorrow's game (Sunday the 3rd) has to be cancelled due to the
opponent being "out of commission" from the hurricane last week.
The team (IRS231) is from Vero Beach which took a direct hit from
Hurricane Jeanne. This game will be re-sheduled for later in the
season.
