HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY, ANNALISA!!!

Sept 24th - 25th
The Heat won 1 and lost 2 at the CFU Shootout tournament this weekend.

GAME 1 - The girls started strongly with a convincing 6-0 win over Stuart.  However, the victory was not joyful, as the team lost goalkeeper Allison for two weeks when she sustained a concussion while making a sliding save.

GAME 2 - The girls lost a tough match to Melbourne Beach Tsunami, a top 2 or 3 team statewide.  After hanging tough 0-0 at the half, and missing a couple good scoring chances, the girls gave up two quick goals early in the 2nd half, and Tsunami came away with the win 2-0.

GAME 3 - The team faced CFU, another State Cup team, in our third and final game.  This up and down game saw both teams miss many good scoring chances.  With about 90 seconds to play in the game, CFU converted a close in shot that the Heat defense couldn't clear, giving the CFU the 1-0 win.

HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY, SHELBY!!!

Sept 18th
IMPORTANT UPDATE... No scrimmage this Tuesday night.  Practice as usual at Lake Destiny.

Sept 17th
The Heat faced Stetson U14 premier today.  The girls fell behind 0-1 about midway through the first half on a defensive mix-up that allowed the Stetson forward to breakaway for the goal.  The girls picked it up late in the half and had a chance to tie when a takedown in the box awarded the Heat a PK.  But, the PK was missed, and the Heat went into the half down a goal.

The girls came out for the 2nd half a bit sluggish, and gave up a quick goal to fall behind 0-2.  But, rather than quit the girls stormed back.  Gabrielle became the first Heat player to ever score on a header when she headed in a nice cross to pull the Heat within a goal.  Inspired now, the Heat kept the pressure on, and just a few minutes later, Joy finished a ball that the Stetson keeper should have handled to tie the game 2-2.  However, in the final minute of play, Stetson was awarded a PK after a Heat hand ball in the box.  The shot was made, and the Heat lost a tough decision, 2-3.  We look forward to playing this big, physical team again later in the season.

Sept 11th
The Heat girls tied Florida Thunder 1-1 in their 2nd game of the season.  Megan W. netted a first half goal to put the Heat up 1-nil in a closely contested 1st half.  After dominating much of the 2nd half with good possesion play, and almost countless scoring chances, the Heat gave up a questionably called PK, that the Thunder converted to tie the game.

Sept 10th
The Heat opened the GCF season with a 0-0 tie vs. Deltona.   The Heat dominated the game defensively giving up only one shot.  The offense generated some good scoring chances out of the new midfield oriented attack, but couldn't find the net.

Sept 3rd-5th
The Heat girls showed very well in their first tournament outing as a U13 team.  The team was joined by guest players Erin and Courtney from Spacecoast.  The team finished with an overall 2W-1T-1L, losing by one goal in the semi-finals.

Game 1 - The Heat defeated Gulf Coast 1-0 in a game that was not as close as the score would indicate.  Joy netted her first goal a Heat player, and the girls narrowly missed 3 or 4 other good chances.  The win avenged a loss to this team from February in the Blackwatch tournament.

Game 2 - The Heat again came to play, defeating a very skilled West Kendall, 3-1.  Guest player Erin netted two goals, and Patricia one.  The Heat dominated defensively, giving up just one very questionable PK late in the game.

Game 3 - The Heat faced MEGU, a team the Heat had never beaten.  After taking the first half lead on a goal by Meagan B., MEGU turned it around in the 2nd half, and throroughly dominated a tired Heat team who couldn't get much going into the strong wind.  The girls, however, hung on for a 1-1 tie, and advanced to the semifinals as the #1 team in our group.

Game 4 - The Heat faced the Sunrise Fire in their seminfinal contest.  The Heat took a 1-0 lead into the half on a beautiful dribbling run and finish by Erin (her 3rd goal).  Unfortunately, the team came out flat in the 2nd half and gave up two quick goals to the Fire.  Playing into a 20mph headwind proved too much for the Heat.  The girls did manage two good shots in the closing minutes but couldn't convert and lost the game 1-2.
